The Mission of the Cape North Farmers’ Market Cooperative Limited, a not-for-profit coop, is to encourage sustainable food production in northern Cape Breton Island by connecting the community to local food producers, food processors, fishermen and artisans, by promoting the social and economic benefits of “buying local”, by supporting local food production projects, and by information and educational programs.
In pursuit of its mission, the Coop operates a Farmers’ Market during the summer and early fall months, every Saturday in Cabot Fire Hall, Cape North Village at the northern tip of Cape Breton Island. We are located directly on the Cabot Trail in Cape North Village.
In 2014, the Cape North Farmers’ Market will open on Saturday, June 21 and operate each Saturday during the summer months through to October 11, 2014. Market hours are 10.00 am to 1.00 pm. A special Christmas season Market will be held in early December.
The Market offers fresh local produce, baked goods, preserves, locally made crafts and works of art by local artists. Local musicians present traditional “Down North” music and net weaving for traditional lobster traps is demonstrated.
The Market Café offers local “brunch-type” cuisine and a social setting to get together with friends – and to make new friends.
